Directive Memos

Lab Reports - Status Memos - Response Memos - Minutes of Meeting - Proposals

A directive memo states a set of instructions or directions for the reader to follow. Directive memos are also used when a change in policy or something of the like happens in the workplace. A directive memo would be sent over an email with similar information for the reason that the information might be time sensitive so the viewer would need to see it immediately to follow the actions and directives within.

Hypothetical Situation:

Kelly is the president of an engineering company. She has a new project for her team of employees. She is going to call a meeting to tell everyone what their contribution to the project will be. In order to make sure that everyone has a clear concept on what the project is and what their role is, she will create a memo to distribute at the meeting. The parts of the memo will be a company heading, description of the project and directions for each team member.
